S. Harrison Rios was born in Salisbury, Maryland, USA in 1999 and currently resides in Brooklyn, New York. Rios’ primary mediums are collage in his independent practice and digital animation on a video game development team. He also has knowledge and professional experience with drawing, painting, writing, and lens-based art forms. Rios sees collage to be a creative rebellion from the systems of overproduction that surround us; specifically in the act of giving new life to discarded media. The artist’s collage work has appeared in galleries and publications as well as acquired in private collections.
Rios’ personal experience greatly affects his artistic process: a knowledge of continental philosophy often inspires the intent of his works, a love for the wayward and playful aesthetic of camp influences his subject matter, and the artist’s diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder gives him a unique frame of mind to observe the world with. A driving force for Rios’ art is to interrogate the viewer’s conception of normality, to provide a sense of aporia, and provoke original thought from the viewer. The artist believes that himself, and most people, have never truly lived in normal times, and thus our responses to our surroundings should not be settled for normal.

Some bits, bobs, and factoids about me so you know about who you’re cold emailing: I’m a Capricorn. My top band of 2023 was the Talking Heads, for 2024 was Supertramp, and 2025 was Sabrina Carpenter. My favorite fruit is a pomegranate, and all of my tattoos are pomegranate themed. I was almost trampled by a stampede of yaks in the Himalayas, and in Germany I was a handyman/serf in an 11th century castle. I’m a supporter of degrowth economics, and I’ve read 100 pages of Being and Time by Martin Heidegger. My top four Letterboxd movies are: There Will Be Blood, All That Jazz, Blue Velvet, and Hedwig and The Angry Inch. My guilty plesures are campy musicals, absinthe, and cigarettes. And lastly, I’m scared of the people who dress up as cartoon characters that try to get me to take a picture with them.
